Publisher Summary Aldehydes arising from in vivo lipid autoxidation chain reactions are a
reliable measure of generalized oxidative stress. This chapter describes the noninvasive
methods for measuring specific aldehydic products. Aldehydes are also produced when
unsaturated fatty acids undergo ozonation. The lung lining fluid, a critical target for reaction
with the ozone present in polluted air, is rich in monounsaturated phospholipids, such as
